The Ethics of AI: In What Hands is AI safe?
Blog / By MakeAI / March 31, 2023
Artificial Intelligence is like Legos for adults, there is no one “way” to use a chat bot or image generator. Large models are made to be multi-purpose, for example, Chat GPT can explain a multitude of subjects, and Dall-E can create an image of just about anything. This comes with a set of ethical dilemmas: what if students use a chat bot to do their homework, or what if someone uses an image generator to make factually incorrect images to spread misinformation?
These are real concerns, which separate Legos and AI, so should AI models still be treated with the same creative flair? At MakeAI we think they should, creativity is the mother of invention. That's why we strive to make AI models and crafters accessible to everyone: even if they aren't fluent in a coding language.
While AI tech can be used to cause harm, the benefits overwhelmingly outweigh the costs. Some key areas in which AI benefits humanity is in the field of medicine and productivity. The recent adoption of AI for use in drug discovery has streamlined a complicated process, saving patient lives and tax payer dollars. In respect to productivity, apps like Grammarly can significantly improve people's writing skills. By integrating AI into their writing process many students have experienced a significant increase in productivity.
Another important question is whether AI imitating other artists or using other sources for a new creation should be considered as copyright infringement. We will explore this dilemma in the future.
